New court upgrades to mark our 77th anniversary year

Our Lady of Muswell Hill LTC enjoys a rich history in the local community. Starting out as a concept to offer local young people a social outlet, the club survived the blitz in the 1940s and a major fire in 1949, leading to restoration and upgrade work throughout the 1950 and 1960s. Then, in 2005, funding from the Lawn Tennis Association enabled us to commence a major facilities upgrade, resurfacing four courts with modern, artificial surfaces that are designed to stand up to the rigours of modern tennis. Our committee never rests on its laurels, though, and so this year we have been delighted to welcome back our tennis surface contractors of more than twenty-five years, ETC Sports Surfaces, to upgrade a further two courts with the Matchplay 2 needle punched surfaces that we know our players love.

Today, our club caters for an incredibly busy, all-year-round schedule that spans social, coached and competitive tennis, so it’s vital that we ensure that all our courts can stand up to the demands of constant play. Since ETC Sports Surfaces first pointed us in the direction of Matchplay 2 in 2005, our members have regularly told us that they love these court surfaces for their consistent high-grade performance – so choosing the same surface to upgrade these two latest courts was an easy decision.

This year, ETC Sports Surfaces have outdone themselves, completing all practical works on these courts in just nine days! Finished in Playrite’s Sporting Green, we think that these courts offer the perfect combination of modern game play standards and the look and feel of a traditional grass court, and we’re delighted that they were delivered and installed so quickly with so little disruption to our summer schedule.

Our own Club Treasurer, Richard Betts, oversaw the project and confirms that we have always found ETC Sports Surfaces to conduct themselves in a timely and professional manner. “We have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the ETC Sports Surfaces team for over 25 years,” he said recently. “Again, everything went smoothly with this project and members have given us excellent feedback. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to other tennis clubs.”

We hope that you all enjoy the newly refurbished tennis courts, which are now fully up to standard and in constant use. Our thanks go to ETC Sports Surfaces for delivering another fast, professional and cost-effective job!
